Defeat Diabetes Program

On 23rd October 2024, the Seventh-Day Adventist Medical Centre hosted its much-anticipated Defeat Diabetes Camp, a dynamic initiative aimed at empowering individuals with practical knowledge and tools to manage diabetes. With many number of people participating, the camp was a resounding success, filled with engaging activities, informative consultations, and life-changing health screenings.

A Day of Health Screenings and Consultations

The event kicked off early, and attendees were offered a range of essential health tests to gauge their overall well-being. Our healthcare professionals conducted Blood Pressure and Random Blood Sugar Tests, providing immediate feedback to participants about their health status. Understanding blood sugar levels and blood pressure is crucial for diabetes management, and we were thrilled to see so many people take advantage of these Health screenings.

Attendees also had their Body Mass Index (BMI) checked, an important metric for identifying healthy weight ranges. Maintaining a healthy weight is key to preventing and managing diabetes, making this a valuable tool in each participant’s health journey.

For those concerned about nerve damage caused by diabetes, Biothesiometry tests were available. This test measures vibration sensitivity in the feet and can help detect early signs of diabetic neuropathy. Many people were able to learn more about the state of their nerves, a critical aspect of diabetes care.

Comprehensive Health Services

The camp provided more than just tests. Attendees enjoyed personal consultations with our highly experienced healthcare professionals:

  • Physiotherapy Consultation: Keeping active is essential in managing diabetes. Our physiotherapists guided participants on safe and effective exercises tailored to individual needs.
  • Diabetic Footwear Consultation: Proper footwear can significantly reduce foot complications in people with diabetes. Our experts offered advice on selecting shoes that prevent ulcers and improve comfort.
  • Eye Consultation: Diabetes can take a toll on eye health, leading to complications like diabetic retinopathy. Our ophthalmology team provided free eye exams, ensuring that participants received early detection and expert advice on eye care.
  • Physician Consultation: Participants had the opportunity to meet with experienced physicians, who offered insights on managing diabetes, optimizing medication, and improving lifestyle choices.
  • Diet & Lifestyle Consultation: One of the camp’s highlights was the personalized diet and lifestyle consultations. Nutritionists guided participants on how to adjust their diets to help manage blood sugar, offering practical meal plans and tips to make healthier food choices. Many walked away feeling more confident in making lasting lifestyle changes.

Equipment Sales for Better Diabetes Management

To further support participants in their diabetes management journey, we had a variety of diabetic equipment for sale. This included glucose monitors, and other essential tools to ensure that managing diabetes is a little easier.

A Community of Support

What made the Defeat Diabetes Camp truly special was the sense of community that filled the day. Participants didn’t just receive medical advice—they connected with others on similar journeys, sharing experiences and supporting each other in their goals to lead healthier lives. The camp reminded us all that managing diabetes is not just about medical intervention but about community, care, and ongoing education.

A Step Towards a Healthier Tomorrow

The success of the Defeat Diabetes Camp was evident in the smiles, the relief, and the empowerment of those who attended. We are proud to have played a role in improving the health and well-being of so many individuals, and we look forward to hosting more such camps in the future.
